Iran war briefing: Israeli strikes on Lebanon kill at least 31 in heaviest night of bombing in weeks

  • At least 31 people, including several children, have been killed in a heavy wave of Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon .
  • The Israeli military confirmed striking over 100 Hezbollah infrastructure sites overnight, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pledge to intensify action against the group. It represents one of the heaviest bombardments since a US-brokered ceasefire began in mid-April.
  • Separately, Iran accused the US of a "gross violation" of the nearly seven-week truce after the US conducted what it termed "defensive strikes" in Iran's southern Hormozgan province.
  • US President Donald Trump had previously warned that while talks with Iran were progressing, renewed attacks would occur if negotiations failed.
  • Elsewhere, oil prices remained elevated today. Brent crude traded near $100 per barrel, and the dollar held gains from the previous session after Iran said the US had violated a ceasefire.
