Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finished IPL 2026 as the Orange Cap winner, ending the season with 776 runs from 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.31. Despite Rajasthan Royals failing to reach the final, the 15-year-old travelled to Ahmedabad for the title clash, where he remained one of the tournament's biggest talking points after a record-breaking campaign.
At 15 years and 65 days, the Rajasthan Royals batter became the youngest player to claim the Orange Cap. His season featured one century and five half-centuries, establishing him as one of the standout performers of the tournament.
Shubman Gill, who scored a century in the chase against Gujarat, failed to overtake the teen sensation after he was dismissed for just 10 runs in the grand finale against RCB.
Sai Sudharsan, last year's Orange Cap winner, was also in contention but was dismissed on 12 runs. With both GT openers getting out, no player could surpass Sooryavanshi. Even Virat Kohli, placed fifth with 600 runs, could not bridge the gap, needing an improbable 177 runs in the final to catch up.
Record-breaking campaign
Sooryavanshi heads into the IPL 2026 final as the leading run-scorer, the tournament's top six-hitter and a leading contender for the Most Valuable Player award.
The teenager smashed 72 sixes during the season, surpassing the previous IPL record of 59 set by Chris Gayle. His six-hitting rate was also significantly higher, clearing the boundary once every 4.31 balls compared to Gayle's rate of one six every 7.73 deliveries during his 2012 season.
Sooryavanshi also reached the milestone of 1,000 IPL runs in record time, taking just 440 balls, surpassing West Indies legend Andre Russell. In terms of innings, he became the second fastest, achieving it in 23 innings, with Shaun Marsh holding the record at 21 innings.
Near misses and explosive batting
His aggressive approach nearly produced another record. During Rajasthan Royals' final league-stage match, Sooryavanshi came within touching distance of breaking Gayle's record for the fastest IPL century.
Needing a six off his 29th ball to achieve the feat, he was caught at third man before reaching the landmark. Earlier in the season, he also fell short of a century in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, departing for 97 off 29 deliveries.

Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans finished second on the run-scoring charts with 732 runs from 16 innings, while teammate Sai Sudharsan ended third with 724 runs.
Although Rajasthan Royals did not make the final, Sooryavanshi's remarkable season ensured he remained at the centre of attention through to the tournament's concluding day in Ahmedabad.
