Mr Jones Watches has announced a new timepiece, called Daydreamer. Featuring a dial designed by British Sri Lankan artist Murugiah, the watch is a kaleidoscope of colour where the time is intentionally unclear at first glance.
Priced ay £225 and limited to 300 examples, Daydreamer is available from 2nd April.
Eccentric British watchmaker Mr Jones Watches is back with another candy-coloured kaleidoscope, called Daydreamer.
Designed by British Sri Lankan artist Murugiah, the watch is available from 2nd April, priced at £225, and limited to just 300 examples.
Based in London, Mr Jones Watches has built a strong reputation for selling affordable timepieces with quirky dial design. Most of its pieces lack numbers or conventional hour markers, and instead task the wearer with taking a moment to read the time.
Daydreamer follows this tradition, since at first it isn’t at all obvious how to tell the time. Even if you spot the hand of the illustrated Muru – a recurring character that appears across Murugiah’s work – moving slowly around the dial, that only gives you the minutes. The hour is indicated by the position of the red petal, so the time shown in the lead image above is just after 4:45. It’s delightfully subtle, even for Mr Jones.

Those familiar with Mirigiah’s other work will recognise the artist’s hallmark sense of curiosity and colour across the dial of Daydreamer. As with many other watches by Mr Jones, the Daydreamer has a dial constructed from pad-printed dials placed on top of each other, rotating as the time passes to create a piece of moving artwork for the wrist.
As the watchmaker says, the design of this piece “features an ever-moving threaded mandala pattern and colourful clouds, inviting the wearer to take a wander through their imagination.”

Murugiah said of the watch: “Navigating the world and learning about oneself within it is a universal feeling. This investigation can seem intense, so with this design in particular, I wanted to represent the part of me that daydreams my way through the investigation of my work.”
A battery-powered quartz watch with a 37 mm stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, 18 mm stainless steel strap and 50 metres of water resistance, Daydreamer is available to pre-order from 2nd April and is priced at £225.
