How bison are transforming woodlands and bringing wildlife back

• A herd of European bison introduced to Blean Woods, Kent, are having a significant positive impact on woodland habitat management and regeneration.
• The project, led by Kent Wildlife Trust and Wildwood Kent, aims to restore complex habitats, enhance nature's resilience to climate change, and store carbon.
• The bison's natural behaviours, such as grazing and felling trees, open up the canopy, allowing woodland regeneration and creating new spaces for diverse wildlife.
• New “bison bridges” are expanding the herd's roaming area to 200 hectares, with two already completed and two more planned by year-end.
• The initiative is one of hundreds supported by £31 million raised by Postcode Lottery players over 20 years, which also funded the bison project's initial setup.
