United States President Donald Trump on Saturday issued a fresh ultimatum to Tehran, warning that Iran has 48 hours to strike a deal or reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz "before all hell will rain down on them".
The message, posted on his Truth Social platform, echoed an earlier 10-day deadline he had given the Islamic Republic to either make progress in talks or reopen the vital shipping route.
"Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out-48 hours before all Hell will rain down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP," his post read.
On March 26, Trump said he was extending the pause on strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure by another 10 days, setting a new deadline of Monday, April 6, 2026, as diplomatic efforts between the two sides continued.
In another Truth Social post, the US President said the decision followed a "request" from the Iranian government and insisted that negotiations were "going very well".
"As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well," the post read.
The extension was part of a broader effort to keep diplomatic channels open even as tensions in West Asia remained high. Earlier, Trump had directed the US Department of War to hold off on potential strikes against Iranian power plants and energy facilities, first for five days and then for a longer window, while talks progressed.
His latest 48-hour warning reinforces the earlier deadline and keeps pressure on Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or risk military escalation.
