Former Liverpool star leaves Bundesliga manager’s role after just 14 games

  • Former Liverpool midfielder Albert Riera has left Eintracht Frankfurt following the conclusion of the Bundesliga season.
  • Riera only joined Frankfurt in February, but it has been confirmed that he and the club have reached a mutual agreement to go separate ways after just 14 matches.
  • Riera won just four of his games in charge, alongside five draws and five defeats, as he guided Frankfurt to eighth place in the Bundesliga, which meant the club missed out on European football.
  • He has previously managed Slovenian side NK Celje twice, having started his managerial career at another Slovenian club, Olimpija Ljubljana, and he has also coached French team Bordeaux.
  • Riera spent two years at Liverpool as a player between 2008 and 2010, and was part of the team that finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester United in the 2008-09 season, while he also previously had a brief spell at Manchester City.
