Scotland international Jack Hendry is "expected" to extend his stay at Al-Ettifaq, despite earlier uncertainty surrounding his future in Saudi Arabia.

The 31-year-old centre-back had been approaching the end of his current deal after three years in the Saudi Pro League, with reports suggesting the club were struggling to offer fresh terms due to financial constraints.

However, according to talkSPORT, additional funds have now been made available, allowing Al-Ettifaq to move forward with plans to keep Hendry at the club beyond this summer. Last week, the ex-Celtic defender opened up on his future. “I’ve got a lot of offers," he said.

"Having played in different countries now, it’s opened up a lot of markets for myself. Naturally, that’s helped me. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. When some players go out of contract, it can go quite quiet, but it’s been quite busy for myself, and I’ll probably make my decision before the start of the tournament.

“I’ve been quite lucky with the offers that have come to me so far, so that’s what I’ll probably do. I’ve taken myself out of my comfort zone. During my career, there have been difficult times, for sure. I just think you’ve got to remain mentally resilient.

"We [Scottish players] have shown that we can go abroad, we can compete, and we can do well.”
