Actress Eve Hewson has said growing up with rockstar father, U2’s Bono, has taken fame “off of a pedestal”.

The 34-year old, who stars in Bad Sisters and the newly released Steven Spielberg blockbuster, Disclosure Day, said wanting to be famous is the “dumbest thing on the planet”.

Raised by Bono and her activist mother Ali Hewson, the Irish actress said she does not understand why being famous is so celebrated especially when it comes at the cost of privacy.

Speaking to The Times about growing up with a famous dad, she said: “I think it took (fame) off of a pedestal for me.

“It’s the dumbest thing on the planet to want to be famous. You’re losing all your privacy.

“You’re putting yourself up for so much criticism. I don’t know why we celebrate it so much.”

She went on to explain that the family link has made it easier for her to get into the film and TV business, however, feels she often has more to prove as a result.

She said: “People really don’t take you seriously.

“When you’re going into castings and meeting with directors, you can really feel that. So you have to power through.

“It’s definitely easier to get into the business, harder to be taken seriously. And that’s fine.”

Hewson stars alongside The Crown’s Josh O’Connor, Pride And Prejudice actor Colin Firth, A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt and Euphoria actor Colman Domingo in Spielberg’s sci-fi conspiracy blockbuster.

She also appeared in 2024’s whodunnit series, The Perfect Couple, alongside Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Meghann Fahy.
