Eric Kripke says it was never the plan to have Marie Moreau kill Homelander in The Boys season 5, says Gen V season 3 would've seen her in her "training-with-Yoda" era

Jaz Sinclair as Marie in Gen V.

Gen V characters Marie Moreau and Jordan Li made brief appearances in the latest episode of The Boys, and despite all that was set up in the spin-off show's second season, it looks like they're not going to be involved in the final stand against Homelander after all.

In a genuinely bizarre scene, Annie (Erin Moriarty) and Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) meet with Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan (London Thor) to pick up some intel about Oh Father. When Jordan asks what their next move is, Annie dismisses them, to which a shocked and indignant Marie exclaims, "Hold on, that's it?! Aren't you the one who recruited us to fight your f***ing fight?! We want to help!"

Annie concludes the rendezvous by coldly telling the Odessa-made Supe, "What good is all that power if you can't control it?", and walks off. It's a moment that showrunner Eric Kripke stands by, according to a recent interview with TVLine.

"She has all of this power, and everyone online is like, 'Well, why doesn't she just go take on Homelander?' I'm like, 'She's a 19-year-old kid!" he explained. "She has no idea how to wield any of it in any sort of responsible, controlled way.

"The fact that she's super powerful, which she is, does not mean she's automatically ready for every single conflict, much less one as big as Homelander. It could be quite dangerous and destructive, and it could lead to a lot of collateral damage and casualties if she can't control it, so she still has a long road to go. That's what we tried to plant there."

During the same chat, Kripke went on to say that had Gen V not been cancelled, the third chapter would've followed Marie as she tries to get a grip on her emotionally-charged bloodbending abilities. "That would [have been] her training-with-Yoda season where she really learns how to take the next step," he concluded.

The Boys is set to conclude on May 20. Ensure you don't miss the final episode with our guide to The Boys season 5 release schedule.
