Tottenham must wait until the final day of the season to see whether they can clinch safety in the Premier League after they were beaten once again at Stamford Bridge. Spurs headed to their London neighbours knowing that a win would have secured their place in the top flight and that a draw would have put it beyond any reasonable doubt, but goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos either side of half-time were enough to rain out their parade.
Richarlison pulled one back for the visitors late on before James Maddison saw a gilt-edge chance denied by a heroic last-ditch tackle from Jorrel Hato, and Spurs headed back north empty-handed on the night their greatest rivals Arsenal clinched the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, compounding this most forgettable of seasons.
Next week’s meeting with Everton will prove an all-or-nothing survival shootout with West Ham, who will face Leeds simultaneously. Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis from Dom Smith and Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge.

Sam Tabuteau reports from Stamford Bridge

Sam Tabuteau reports from Stamford Bridge
20:42 , Arthur Ferridge
Porro keeps pushing centrally in search of the ball but it is leaving gaps for Cucurella to exploit. Porro has been Spurs' biggest threat so far but Spurs need to be careful not to leave themselves exposed in the right channel.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

A sensational strike from Fernandez, the Chelsea captain on the night leading by example. There was no saving that. Chelsea lead.
GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham | Fernandez '18

Fernandez opens the scoring with a derby classic! What a hit from the Argentine! He hits a piledriver from 25 yards and it just swerves away from Kinsky.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham
20:33 , Arthur Ferridge
17mins: Delap has had a tough season and, in keeping with the established theme, has had a pretty tough opening quarter of an hour here. He is struggling to hold onto the ball or cope with the physical pressure of the Tottenham back-line.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham
20:32 , Arthur Ferridge

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham
20:30 , Arthur Ferridge
14mins: WHAT A SAVE! Palmer looks to bend one beyond Kinsky but the Czech is at full stretch to parry.

Sam Tabuteau reports from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham
20:22 , Arthur Ferridge

Sam Tabuteau reports from Stamford Bridge
20:19 , Arthur Ferridge

De Zerbi ban risk
20:00 , Arthur Ferridge
Roberto De Zerbi will cop a one-match touchline ban if he is booked tonight.
He has already been booked twice since taking over from Igor Tudor, with three bookings in one season warranting a suspension.
That could be damning should he serve that ban during a relegation decider this weekend.
Vicario injury latest
19:56 , Arthur Ferridge
Guglielmo Vicario is in the Tottenham squad tonight but it is Antonin Kinsky who starts between the sticks.
Roberto De Zerbi reveals his countryman is not 100 per cent fit, and that is why he remains on the bench.
“We do not want to take a risk,” he says.
McFarlane: I'm looking forward to working with Alonso
19:55 , Arthur Ferridge
“Really exciting news. [He is] very talented, massive pedigree. Yeah, really excited for the club. We're all looking forward to working with them.
“It doesn't surprise me. It's a massive club. I think we've got really exciting players coming to play here. Even though it's a disappointing season, they are showing at times this year the kind of quality that we have.
“So yeah, it's a massive club and it will always attract top players and top managers.”
A rare start for Delap
19:50 , Arthur Ferridge
Joao Pedro is left out of the squad tonight, leaving Liam Delap to start in his place.
The Briton has had a grim debut campaign in west London, with just two goals in all competitions.
Can he end the season on a high here?
Xabi Alonso to Chelsea: Everything you need to know
19:45 , Arthur Ferridge
The chain of events that brought Xabi Alonso to Chelsea began before it was even clear Liam Rosenior’s disaster reign would end prematurely.
Form and confidence had been plummeting for weeks. Chelsea’s owners, who had been so convinced in January that Rosenior’s compelling communication and Strasbourg’s stellar results would translate at Stamford Bridge, were giving the young Englishman time but could see which way the wind was blowing.
As the defeats piled up, they got their heads together and began to plot. The recruitment process to hire Rosenior’s successor officially began after his sacking, following that dreadful 3-0 defeat at Brighton, yet dialogue about what sort of profile should come next was already underway.
This bruising season has already convinced Chelsea to deviate somewhat away from their youth-focused transfer strategy this summer. They will hire some experienced heads with leadership qualities. They accepted, after Rosenior, that a change of profile was needed in the dugout, too.

Where are Joao Pedro and Levi Colwill?
19:42 , Arthur Ferridge
Joao Pedro misses out tonight with a knock, Standard Sport understands.
Levi Colwill is absent as Chelsea manage his workload.
Can Chelsea still qualify for Europe?
19:40 , Arthur Ferridge
Yes, they can!
In fact, the Champions League is still technically possible, but a win will be required both here and away at Sunderland on Sunday, and have several other results go their way.
Three points against arch-rivals Tottenham tonight certainly would not go amiss...
Happy hunting ground? Not quite...
19:37 , Arthur Ferridge
Stamford Bridge could not be a less of a happy hunting ground for Spurs.
They last won a league match in SW6 in 2018.
Relegation permutations
19:35 , Arthur Ferridge
How can Tottenham confirm their survival tonight?
A win will be enough to confirm their top-flight status for next season, also relegating West Ham in the process.
A draw should be enough. It would leave Spurs three points clear of West Ham heading into the final day of the season, but their vastly superior goal difference would leave the Irons requiring a pretty significant win on Sunday.
Should Spurs lose, though, it will all be to play for on the final day of the campaign.
Around the grounds: Bournemouth vs Manchester City
19:32 , Arthur Ferridge
The Premier League title could be decided on the south coast tonight.
If Manchester City drop any points against Bournemouth in this evening’s early kick-off, Arsenal could be crowned champions.
And that match is UNDERWAY as of 7.30pm BST!

Dom Smith reports from Stamford Bridge
19:27 , Arthur Ferridge
It's an interesting line-up for Chelsea, including very rare Premier League starts for Liam Delap, Andrey Santos and Josh Acheampong. Levi Colwill misses out due to load management as he has only just come back from a very serious injury. It's the last chance for Cole Palmer to impress before Thomas Tuchel names his England squad for the World Cup on Friday.
Jesse Derry returns
19:25 , Arthur Ferridge
Jesse Derry made his full senior debut as Chelsea hosted Nottingham Forest a couple of weeks back, but he did not last the full first-half as he suffered a head injury in a nasty mid-air collision.
He was hospitalised but seems to have avoided serious injury. He returns to the side here, named to the bench alongside two other extremely highly rated academy products in Shim Mheuka and Ryan Kavuma McQueen.

Roberto De Zerbi had given himself a choice to make in goal this evening and he has decided to stick with Antonin Kinsky after a number of impressive displays in place of first-choice Guglielmo Vicario. With Kinsky retaining his place, Spurs are unchanged from their 1-1 draw with Leeds last week as they look to secure Premier League survival tonight.
