Celtic have "stepped up" their pursuit of FC Aarau striker Elias Filet as they look to strengthen their attack this summer, according to a new report.

Filet is attracting strong interest after a prolific campaign in the Swiss Challenge League, where he scored 22 goals last season.

Per Sky Sports in Switzerland, the Scottish champions are said to have opened discussions with the 24-year-old’s representatives, including a video call on Tuesday, as they aim to agree personal terms before negotiating with the Swiss club.

However, Celtic face significant competition. According to the source, Belgian side Genk have already submitted an offer for the forward, while French outfit Lorient have made contact with his camp and are expected to follow up with a formal bid.

With just one year remaining on his contract, a summer move looks increasingly likely as multiple clubs battle for his signature.

As things stand, Celtic only have Daizen Maeda and Johnny Kenny as recognised strikers within their ranks, with Kelechi Iheanacho's year option yet to be decided.

Loan strikers Junior Adamu and Tomas Cvancara have both returned to their parent clubs in Germany.
