The UK’s only privately owned train will soon be available to hire from £45,000 per day.
Unveiled this week at London Euston, The Chairman’s Train is the country’s first fully private heritage train available for exclusive hire of all nine cars.
The luxury train’s inaugural season will start in July on a five-day roll through Scotland’s West Highlands, past lochs and mountains with integrated opportunities and stays for “off-train exploration”.
Onboard, each carriage has been restored with polished brass, soft lamplight, and deep velvet upholstery, featuring walk-in showers, evening pianists in the bar car, and a dedicated chef to curate regional menus.
Multi-day itineraries will also use Flora - the train’s dedicated “bubble car” - to explore more remote branch lines than a standard service.
For 2026, all Chairman’s Train departures will start from London Euston, with plans to leave other London terminals on future journeys.
Owned by British businessman Jeremy Hosking, the train is designed to host groups between two and 16 people on tailored journeys across Britain’s railways, hauled by a selection of vintage locomotives, including steam, electric and diesel.
Full day charters aboard The Chairman’s Train start at £45,000, with a £25,000 additional daily fee for overnight stays.
Guests will be able to commission the carriages from 2027 for private charters across the UK.
Bespoke multi-day tours on the train will be priced “according to your chosen locomotive, destination, and duration”, said rail operators.
Tony Bush, managing director of Locomotive Services Group, said: “The Chairman’s Train represents something truly special for Britain’s railway heritage and for luxury travel alike.
“We have taken immense pride in restoring these remarkable carriages with absolute respect for their history, while reimagining them for a new generation of travellers who value privacy, craftsmanship and authenticity.”
Jeremy Hosking, group chairman, added: “The Chairman’s Train is the UK’s first fully private heritage train for exclusive use. Designed for intimate groups of two to sixteen, it offers a personalisation unmatched in modern travel. Whether your passion is cathedrals, castles, gardens or golf courses, then, together with our off-train colleagues, we can make it happen!”
