Heung-Min Son has lifted the lid on his “special” bond with Ange Postecoglou, insisting their relationship will last a lifetime after Tottenham’s historic Europa League triumph.

The South Korean superstar captained Spurs to European glory under the Australian, ending the club’s 17-year wait for silverware. But in a stunning twist, Postecoglou was dismissed just two weeks later.

Now 33 and playing for Los Angeles FC, Son admits he still feels “lucky” to have worked under the former Celtic boss. “We won the trophy together as captain and coach. This is special,” Son said. “This relationship is going to be with me until we die.” [Australian Daily Telegraph]

Son was handed the armband by Postecoglou and credits him for shaping his leadership both on and off the pitch. “Every coach helps players on the pitch, but Ange was very helpful off it as well,” he added.

“He taught me a lot about being a leader. He was really helpful, and I just miss him.”

Despite Postecoglou’s departure from Spurs, the pair have remained close, with Son revealing the Aussie’s influence has even boosted his popularity Down Under. “I do feel the love from Australian fans,” Son said.

“When we worked together with Ange, we had good chemistry, and I think that’s why I could see even more Australian fans.”

Son’s global appeal continues to soar, with more than 15 million followers and a starring role in McDonald’s World Cup 2026 campaign alongside icons like David Beckham and Ronaldinho.

And he couldn’t resist a cheeky nod to his former boss when discussing the campaign. “First of all, I didn’t know in Australia you call it Maccas,” he laughed.

“Maybe next time I see Ange, I’ll ask him, 'should we go to Maccas?'”
