Arsenal: Kai Havertz responds to Chelsea return plea amid striker search

Kai Havertz has shut down any suggestion he would consider re-joining Chelsea this summer.

The German signed for Arsenal in 2023, moving across London after spending three years at Stamford Bridge.

He lacked consistency while playing in royal blue, coming away with 32 goals and 16 assists across all competitions, but wrote himself into the club’s history books after scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final.

Injuries have rather hampered his time at Arsenal, where he remains under contract until summer of 2028, but he repeated his Champions League final goalscoring heroics when he gave the Gunners an early lead against Paris Saint-Germain in this season’s showpiece.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to be kept busy in the summer transfer market, with both clubs set for considerable turnover, with centre-forward to be a position of note.

Arsenal hope to sign another striker, while Chelsea will likely be forced to do the same should Liam Delap leave the club after his dismal debut campaign.

But, if a striker is signed, it will not be Havertz.

Havertz was asked by a fan whether he would be open to re-joining Chelsea as he signed autographs at Germany’s World Cup base camp.

Told to “go back to Chelsea” by a young supporter, Havertz was unequivocal, saying: “You wish, you wish.”

There has been no serious suggestion that Chelsea were interested in signing Havertz this summer, and this is not the first time the player has made clear his commitment to Arsenal.

He kiboshed rumours surrounding his future at a press conference in March, saying: “I feel right at home at Arsenal and I see my future there.

“I feel everyone there is also very, very happy with me.

“Sure, it wasn’t a very easy season, but I definitely see my future at Arsenal, in London.”

Havertz is due to play a key role for Germany at this summer’s World Cup, and scored another early goal as they beat the United States in a warm-up friendly.

They share a group with Germany, the Ivory Coast and Ecuador, with their campaign getting underway on June 20.
