- Danish-Norwegian band Aqua, best known for their 1997 hit song Barbie Girl, has announced they are disbanding as a live act after three decades together.
- The Eurodance group stated that “this feels like the right moment to say goodbye” while their memories and love for the music remain intact, without detailing specific reasons for the split.
- Formed in 1989, Aqua achieved international fame with their breakthrough single Barbie Girl and the album Aquarium in 1997.
- They previously won a Supreme Court case against Barbie maker Mattel, who argued the song tarnished the brand, with the court ruling it was protected by parody law.
- The band had previously split in 2001, reuniting in 2007 for tours and releasing another album in 2011, before celebrating the 20th anniversary of Barbie Girl in 2017.
